Background to P.E.A.C.E. Investigative Interviewing

FIS® believe in quality ethical investigative interviewing and we want to contribute in reducing miscarriages of justice worldwide by promoting the concept of forensically robust interviews of witnesses and suspects, recognizing that ‘memory is a crime scene’.

At the heart of most miscarriages of justice worldwide, and usually at an inordinate financial cost and with immeasurable reputational damage, is the inappropriate application of interview methodology.

In 1993, the P.E.A.C.E. Training Framework was introduced for Police use in England and Wales. It comprised two models, The Cognitive Interview and The Conversation Management Models.

The P.E.A.C.E Framework has evolved and since been adopted by numerous Police forces and Government agencies worldwide including the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Ireland.

FIS® provide training, development and assessment of interviewers at all levels, foundation through to specialist interview advisors and managers, and can supply highly skilled and accredited interview trainers at each level.

FIS® adopt the P.E.A.C.E. framework as the foundation of their ethos. Applied robustly, ethically, and by skilled and competent practitioners P.E.A.C.E. embodies the drive for ethical fact finding using scientifically endorsed interview methods.

We embrace 3 ‘models’ of interviewing, Cognitive Interviewing (CI), Enhanced Cognitive Interviewing (ECI), and Conversation Management (CM), all having their place in any interview.

We have a reputation for quality as a result of employing highly experienced and specialized qualified trainers who are able to utilise their academic and practical skills from the workplace. This ensures we provide relevant, up to date training and consultancy within the public sector.
